Aha Moments!

3 Aha Moments
1. The idea of production placement in movies.
2.Censorship in the recording arts industry.
3. The war of the worlds broadcast

Explanations
1. I thought it was interesting how companies learned to adapt to people not viewing commercials by implementing their produces within movies we are watching.
2. I read something along the lines of adding parental advisory rating for concerts and I think that is ridiculous. I feel that it is censoring their first amendment rights.
3. I was surpised to see how influential that broadcast was on society. People are very easily persuaded by the manipulation of our media.

Media Law Cases

The case I will be discussing involves UMG Recordings vs. Veoh Networks. UMG argued that Veoh was liable for copyright infringement against certain uploaded videos. UMG stated that videos were being uploaded and no proper forms of payments were made to the copyright owners. The court ruled in favor of Veoh because they qualified for a "safe harbor" under the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

First article mentioned

I feel that UMG had the right to interrogate Veoh for these accusations. Copyright owners deserve being compensated for the work they submit and if Veoh is handling the uploads of these videos illegally, then the prosecutors should be punished.

Academic Research Project

I have decided to discuss the topic of Shock radio mainly discussing Howard Stern and his disputes with the FCC. I want to show how Stern started his career and developed his certain sense of entertainment and how the FCC challenges his words through censorship.

Internet

On Wikipedia there were 12,545 Social Working Websites. The few I have heard of include: Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, and Twitter. All of the others listed I have not heard of. The website I decided to investigate is called Crewster. This website was designed to allow members of the film industry to connect with each other for the purpose of employment. Users give advice and other recommendations based on work experience. I use social networking to keep in connect with friends and relatives. I also use it as a form of email. Websites that I have used before are Myspace and Facebook. I still continue to use Facebook for certain situations. There have been situations where I have been able to keep in contact with old friends from high school when they moved to a different city to attend college. They have helped me out by being able to keep in touch with them.

Favorite movie of 2009

My favorite movie of 2009 has to be Whatever Works starring Larry David. I enjoyed this movie because of the message the movie states and that simply is life is challenging but you can make it by on whatever works for you. It is hard to decide my all time favorite movie but I will say one of my favorite movies recently is Children of Men. I enjoyed how the director filmed this movie and I liked how they portrayed different break outs of chaos as the human society withers away. I previewed both these movies on blu ray for my first viewing.

Magazine Proposal

Look Out A Bear is Coming is the title for my instant cult classic.
The idea of the magazine is to be an eye shocking experience. My magazine will be different from my competitors because it thrives on dangerous entertainment.
I feel my audience would be directed towards adult men wanting to see this sort of entertainment. I also feel people would enjoy getting to know the people behind the articles. From these stories we are able to see how these certain individuals have changed their personal lives completely just to continue to survive.
My magazine defends its honor on the fact that as soon as you see the cover it draws your attention into it.
Some of the advertisements you might see in my magazine would be for clothing stores for outdoor equipment. We would have a section dedicated for teaching classes on how to defend yourself and provide tips if you ever encounter a situation like this. We would have a selection for guns for the hunters out there. Other advertisements would be for site locations to go visit that are safe. We could also have camping equipment ads in it.
The First five articles to be published in my magazine are: Man Bitten by King Cobra Survived Horrific Hospital Operation," "Family of Four Attacked by Two Bears While Camping," "Recuperation Rooms- Interviews of hospitals survival stories," "Northern California, the Camping Hot Spot," and "Moose Spotted in Local Backyard!"
The cover of the magazine will be filled with vibrant colors that attract your eye. The font will be shooting off the page to bring excitement to the reader. The image will be of a bear attacking a man with the article title "I SURVIVED.." There will be a monthly poster of a dangerous act being featured in the magazine.

My Top Three Books

One of my favorite science fiction books I have read was Necroscope: The Touch. The author's selection of words and detail created some of the best visuals I have ever thought of.
Another book that has impacted my life was a book I read was I was in Elementary school. It was title Brian's Winter and it followed the story of a boy's survival in the wilderness. I felt a personal connection with the character as I enjoy the outdoors very much and I looked up to the character as a hero.
Another great book I enjoyed was A Separate Peace. This book is special to me because of the two main characters and how different they are yet still are the best of friends. It reminds me of how I felt with my group of friends during high school.

Technological Determinsism

McLuhan's theory of technological determinism using the example of the printing press.
the item enhances availability of information. The reversal affect is too much of invalid information.
The obsolescence factor is no more printing by hand. The retrieval are a closer relationship with information.

Media Autobiography

I have had experiences with each one of these different types of mass media. I would say my favorite are books, newspaper articles, movies, and the internet. I have used different newspaper articles and other internet sources to find out information about the media.
I like the availability of internet because of how resourceful it can be. It's quite a useful media resource.
Magazines and radio are probably the two sources of media that I use the least. I personally do not listen to the radio for media information. I also discredit a lot of the news resources on television because I believe a lot of their information is misrepresented.
I think we live in a very convenient time where we have access to so many different sources of information. I feel that a portion of the media has a different influence than its intention on our society and gullible as we are there are several of us willing to buy into it.
I currently have a job that is related to mass media. I work at HP Pavilion as a parking attendant. It is our local event center where the San Jose Sharks play their hockey season. Their games broadcast on television and provide a source of entertainment to its viewers. They have a huge impact on the media because they are professional team and they have a huge fan base.
If I was asked to get another job more closely related to the media I would probably have to decline. I enjoy working outside, with my hands, rather than focus on something related to the media.
